Fundamentals of Computer Science II
Twelve weeks in a single language. CS200 takes the foundations you built in CS100 and goes deep on JavaScript - the language, the DOM and asynchronous code - then puts MySQL underneath it and a Node, Express and REST back-end on top, finishing with a full-stack capstone you design, secure and ship.
About this Course
Computer Science is more than just coding. It's about understanding how technology shapes our world and learning to build the systems that power it.
CS200 is twelve weeks in one language. You arrive from CS100 already able to build a web page and write a program, so this course spends its first five weeks going deep on JavaScript: the language itself, the DOM, asynchronous code, and the algorithmic thinking that separates working code from good code. Depth is the point. This is where JavaScript stops being syntax you copy and becomes a language you reason in.
From there you put a real database underneath it with MySQL, then build the server side with Node, Express and REST, so the whole stack speaks JavaScript from the browser to the API to the query.
The final two weeks are a capstone: one full-stack application you design, build, secure and ship. Cybersecurity, AI tooling, career preparation and a first look at NoSQL document databases are folded into that build rather than taught beside it, because they matter most against real software you own. The NoSQL introduction lands here on purpose: comparing a document store to the relational schemas you have just designed yourself is the only point at which that contrast means anything. You work on Linux from day one via WSL2, set up in a TA-led Day-0 clinic before teaching starts - the working environment, not a module.
The January 2027 cohort runs Mon 4 January to Fri 26 March 2027: 36 sessions across 12 weeks. CS200 is what ASE300, our agentic software engineering track, assumes from its first week, so this is the level that opens it.
Schedule
Mon, Wed & Friday, 10:30 - 13:00 GMT
Learning Outcomes
What You Will Learn
- Reason fluently in JavaScript: the language, scope, the DOM and asynchronous code
- Build interactive web applications that fetch and handle live data
- Design relational schemas and query them confidently with MySQL
- Build a REST API with Node and Express, backed by a real database
- Ship, secure and defend a full-stack JavaScript application of your own design
Hands-On Projects
What You Will Build
Build a portfolio of real JavaScript projects across every block, ending in one full-stack application you design, ship and defend.
A dynamic web application demonstrating DOM manipulation, event handling, and asynchronous data from a live API
Design and implement databases for real-world scenarios including bookstores, mini e-commerce stores, and fashion stores using MySQL
A JSON API with real routes, validation and error handling, reading and writing to your own MySQL database
A complete application built with JavaScript, Node, Express and MySQL, secured and deployed: your on-ramp to the agentic software engineering track
Graduates of Jasseh Code Camp are now working at top tech companies, building successful startups, and advancing their careers in software development.
Target Student
Who Is This For?
- Students who have completed CS100 and are ready to go deep on one language
- Self-taught developers who can build a web page and want real depth in JavaScript
- Career changers who want a full-stack foundation before the agentic engineering track
- Anyone heading for ASE300 who needs the computer-science fundamentals it assumes
What You Should Know First
Prerequisites
CS100 is the level directly below this one. It covers computing fundamentals, HTML, CSS and programming foundations, all of which CS200 assumes from week one - if you already have those elsewhere, you can join CS200 directly. Complete beginners start further down, at ITP000.
Here are the courses we recommend if you need to strengthen the fundamentals.
CS100
BeginnerComputer Science I
Twelve weeks in two blocks. Five weeks building the web from scratch - HTML by hand, CSS to real depth, responsive layouts published live with git - then six weeks of Python from zero, up to functions and the data structures real programs are built from, finishing with a capstone that joins the two.
ITP000
Pre-BeginnerIntro to Tech & Programming
Level 1 of the JCC ladder. Twelve sessions over four weeks for someone who has never written a line of code: how computers and the web really work, then you build your own web page with HTML & CSS and publish it to a live address you can open on your own phone.
What's Included

Course Curriculum
Explore the comprehensive modules and topics covered in this course.
The JavaScript Language
Types, operators, control flow, functions and scope, taken slowly enough to actually stick
The DOM & Interactivity
Selecting elements, handling events, and making a page respond to the person using it
Asynchronous JavaScript & APIs
Promises, async / await and fetch: working with data that arrives later
Algorithmic Thinking in JavaScript
Breaking problems down, and the searching, sorting and recursion patterns you meet in real code
What Students Say
Hear from students who have completed this course and similar programs.
JCC taught me Python, HTML, and CSS, which greatly improved my understanding of programming and web design. Through Python, I learned logical thinking and problem-solving with code, while HTML and CSS helped me design attractive web pages. The lessons were clear and practical, and I'm grateful to the instructors for their patience and support.
